Toronto police have identified the remains of a man whose body was discovered in 2008, using genetic testing and a DNA sample obtained overseas.
Police found the man’s body on March 29, 2008, who was a Toronto resident, under a bridge at the Bloor and Parliament Intersection, was in his 50s at the time of his death, according to police.
Despite initial “conventional investigative” efforts at the time, the man could not be identified, and police determined the death was not suspicious.
In 2023, the case was selected for analysis using investigative genetic genealogy, known as IGG, a DNA-based technique increasingly used to identify unknown remains, according to police.
