1WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Mikie Sherrill has officially resigned her seat in Congress, submitting letters of resignation Tuesday to both New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and House Speaker Mike Johnson.
Her resignation becomes effective at 11:59 p.m. on November 20.
Sherrill, who has represented New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District since 2019, will assume office as the state’s 57th governor after winning the November election.
“It has been an honor to serve the residents of the 11th Congressional District,” Sherrill wrote in her letter to Murphy. “Public service is a public trust. I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of the 11th District and all New Jerseyans as Governor next year.”
