The Boston Licensing Board decides tomorrow whether to let Safar Salon, 235 Newbury St. in the Back Bay, buy Todd English's beer-and-wine license for his now defunct Figs in Charlestown so it can begin offering complimentary beer and champagne to its customers as they get their hair done - possibly even as their husbands or boyfriends are getting fitted for a suit across the street at Suitsupply, which offers free beer to its customers.

"It's very unique," at least for Boston, board Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said. "I know it's not unusual in some cities.

Salon owner Serge Safar's attorney, Ryan Gazda, said Safer is fully versed in city and state regulations for the service of alcohol, in part because of his ownership shares in some local restaurants, including Serafina right next door.
