New England ski mountains are rejoicing over recent snow and some are even breaking records.

Stowe Mountain Resort , which opens for the season on Friday, reported a record-breaking snow depth this week on Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak.

On Tuesday, Stowe officials said 16 inches fell in 48 hours, boosting the Mount Mansfield summit stake depth to 38 inches — which is 2 1/2 feet above normal and a record depth for this time of year. The mountain’s records go back to 1954.

Officials could barely contain their excitement.

“Thanks to Mother Nature for laying down a record deep snowpack for this time of year, and the incredible work of our snowmaking team, we are excited to announce that we plan to have over 50 trails open on Friday, totaling 20+ miles and 225 acres of terrain!”
