Influential line-crosser and controversial comedian Dave Chappelle is on his way to Calgary and Edmonton on Dec. 2 and 3, respectively, as part of a five-arena stand of western North America.
Exploring if not outright kicking over identity politics of race and gender since the insanely funny Chappelle’s Show run from 2003-2006, the comedian quit in the middle of making the third season, in part to reflect on the nature of his often mean-spirited influence.
Returning to the public eye, Chappelle signed a $20-million per special deal with Netflix, some of which landed the multi-millionaire in the centre of debates about punching down, particularly regarding trans people, which has since found him talking about the nature of comedy and free expression in his work.
