After a federal court on Tuesday blocked Texas from using a redrawn U.S. House map that touched off a nationwide redistricting battle, some experts say California's voter-approved Proposition 50 is unlikely to be impacted by the judicial ruling.

"Most of the law around redistricting is up to the state, not the federal government, not federal law, and we just changed state law," Justin Levitt, a professor at Loyola Law School, said in an interview with ABC7. "I don't think there are many grounds for a legal challenge against Prop. 50 to succeed."

Last week, the Justice Department sued to block new congressional district boundaries approved by California voters, joining a court battle that could help determine which party wins control of the U.S. House in 2026.
