With injuries throughout the lineup, the Komets on April 1, 2018 signed a 24-year-old left-handed rookie forward from the University of Vermont to finish out the season.
Eight seasons, one championship and 399 regular-season games later, Anthony Petruzzelli is still in Fort Wayne. Not just as a veteran player, but someone who continues to be a pillar for the franchise and local hockey community.
Petruzzelli’s next game, coming when the Komets hold their home opener on Friday, will be his 400th in the regular season with the Komets. Only one other player, Shawn Szydlowski, has more appearances since the franchise joined the ECHL in 2012.
