Brits have been alerted over a lesser-known symptom of heart disease, which could increase the risk of a heart attack by "five times."

Heart disease is a leading cause of death in Britain, and can occur when there is a build up of fatty substances in the coronary arteries.

There are a few symptoms which are familiar with the general public, but one less recognised sign linked to heart disease is leg pain.

This can manifest itself as a "gripping" or "cramping" sensation in the legs, according to David Newby, BHF John Wheatley Professor of Cardiology at the BHF Centre of Research Excellence at the University of Edinburgh.
