The second company convicted in connection with a fatal blast at the Come By Chance refinery three years ago has been fined more than $50,000 for its role in the tragedy.

The explosion, on September 2nd, 2022 killed one man and seriously injured seven others, four of them employees of Lorneville Mechanical Contractors.

The New Brunswick-based company was one of many on site in the months prior to the blast, removing piping and other equipment to revamp the refinery to produce biofuels.

In an agreed statement of facts, Lorneville admits failing to deal with safety risks and the fatal hazard that came to be, “overlooking essential safeguards that could have prevented it.”
