NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - More than a decade of federal oversight of the New Orleans Police Department concluded Wednesday (Nov. 19) when U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan granted a motion to end the consent decree reforming and managing police operations in the city.
“Everyone in New Orleans has been impacted by the work we have done,” Morgan said. “Today, due to the commitment and hard work of so many, the NOPD is a transformed agency and serves as a model agency for many in the country.”
City Attorney Donesia Turner said, “Today marks a significant milestone for our city and its police department. ... The NOPD of the past is not the NOPD of the present.”
