Tenants allege management has demanded back rent without providing evidence

PAWTUCKET – More than 70% of the 100 tenants at the income-restricted Centennial Towers in Pawtucket are pushing to unionize the building over poor upkeep, appliances broken for nearly a decade, retaliation for organizing and what they say are fraudulent demands for extra rent payments.

Reclaim RI is leading the unionization effort, which has been in the works for about a year, spearheaded by Pawtucket resident and state Rep. Cherie Cruz. Following a press conference on Nov. 19, the organizers sent a demand letter to the owner, Carpionato Group , for the building management to begin talks with tenants.
