PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Energy customer relief credits are at the center of a Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission meeting that began Wednesday morning.

RI Energy had considered giving customers $75 a month in relief money, but withdrew the plan when the agreement approval time window lapsed.

The credits would have been for January through March of 2026 and 2027.

A Rhode Island Energy representative commented on the matter saying in part:

We developed a voluntary proposal to provide meaningful bill credits to our customers during the most challenging months of this winter and next. Through a collaborative effort with the Advocacy Section of the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, that proposal underwent substantial negotiation, resulting in an agreement that w
