SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Apple Seeds, a Fayetteville-based nonprofit, is working with schools across Northwest Arkansas to teach students practical skills that extend beyond the classroom.
During the school year, Apple Seeds runs cooking and nutrition programs for kindergarten through fifth grade. The organization partners with several districts, including Springdale Public Schools, where students receive hands-on lessons in preparing fresh produce.
"Arkansas is in the top three states in the Union for both childhood food insecurity and diet-related illnesses," Apple Seeds program manager Tova Bohrer said. "And one of the things we can do is we can have programs that help kids learn how to cook fresh produce, where their food comes from, and give them a greater understanding of that."
