Three pensioners, two men and one woman, all in their 80s, have been arrested in connection with a historic child sexual abuse investigation in Bradford. The arrests were made by West Yorkshire Police following reports from eight victims who alleged they suffered cruelty and sexual abuse while living in local authority children's care homes during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The suspects, aged 83, 83, and 86, were apprehended at their homes in Cumbria and Kent on Tuesday. They have since been released on bail as investigations continue. The alleged abuse took place at two now-closed care homes: Burley in Wharfedale Assessment Centre on Station Road and Brunswick Road Children’s Care Home on Brunswick Road. Detective Chief Inspector Vicky Greenbank of Bradford District Police stated, "Protecting and safeguarding children is a top priority for West Yorkshire Police. This operation forms part of our ongoing commitment to investigate both current and non-recent sexual offences against children." Greenbank emphasised the seriousness of child sexual abuse, describing it as an "abhorrent crime" that impacts some of the most vulnerable individuals in society. She urged anyone who has experienced sexual abuse, regardless of when or where it occurred, to report it to the police, assuring them that they would be listened to and believed. The police are also appealing for information from anyone who may have knowledge of incidents at the care homes. Individuals can contact the police via 101 or use the live chat options, quoting reference 13170106973.
