Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced that he would be sending about 300 members of the state's National Guard to Washington, D.C., in December.
Braun authorized a four-month deployment after receiving a request from the D.C. National Guard for additional support.
Indiana Guard members will replace soldiers who have been deployed from other states since August, according to a press release from the Indiana National Guard.
In August, nearly 2,300 National Guard troops were sent to patrol the streets of the nation's capital , after President Donald Trump declared a public emergency over crime in the city.
