An Ahmedabad man was arrested for allegedly making phone calls to family members of inmates by posing as a Surat Central Jail officer and demanding money “for providing facilities such as tiffin supply and mattresses” in jail.
The Ahmedabad City Police arrested Rajesh Narendra Trivedi, 48, a resident of the Isanpur area of Ahmedabad and a native of Surendranagar district on Monday. He was handed over to Surat police on Tuesday night for further probe.
On Wednesday, Trivedi was produced before the Surat district court, which sent him to police remand for three days.
The arrest was made based on a complaint filed by a family member of a jail inmate with Surat police. Police sources said that the accused, posing as a lawyer, had collected the phone numbers of the family members of jail
