It’s been a chaotic couple days for roster moves across Major League Baseball, and although the Baltimore Orioles grabbed some headlines with their trade for outfielder Taylor Ward, they also made other interesting decisions.

Every team had to add its eligible prospects to the 40-man roster by Tuesday afternoon or risk losing them to the Rule 5 Draft next month. The Orioles decided to protect two prospects, as reflected in the official MLB transactions log : outfielder Reed Trimble and right-handed pitcher Cameron Foster.

Two names in meant two names also had to go out, and the Orioles chose two fringy players to designate for assignment: shortstop Luis Vázquez and outfielder Pedro León. And the second decision was particularly intriguing, because the Orioles hardly had time to welco
