WASHINGTON — Prospects are not looking good for an extension of the extra tax credits that have helped more Americans buy insurance plans in the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces. Republicans don’t agree among themselves on a proposal, and Democrats don’t like any of the Republican ideas.

Congress has 13 days in session before a likely Dec. 15 vote on legislation to extend extra pandemic-era premium subsidies for ACA plans. That’s also the deadline for people to pick a plan if they want their coverage to start at the beginning of 2026.

“Oh we’re not going to get it done this year,” Sen. Rick Scott (Fla.) said Tuesday.
