SickKids and CHEO received $35 million to advance youth mental health care with a focus on early diagnosis and targeted treatment.
Gifted by the Waverley House Foundation and its founder Bruce McKean, the donation will be going toward the Precision Child and Youth Mental Health Initiative — a new approach to providing tailored treatments to “improve long-term outcomes.”
McKean, a philanthropist billionaire, has been donating to mental health research and initiatives through Waverley House, a foundation he set up after he became wealthy through Shopify investments. He told the Star wanted to make a difference .
The project is a joint partnership between SickKids and CHEO, a children’s hospital in Ottawa. The donation was released in two phases: an initial phase of $10 million in 2022,
