CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It’s the time of year when hunters break out their gear and head to the woods.

Monday is the beginning of buck firearm season in West Virginia.

During a press conference Wednesday morning, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey discussed the beginning of the season and the role hunting plays in the Mountain State.

“This is a season that’s long cherished by West Virginians,” Morrisey said. “And that’s because not only is it the right time of year, but this is something that is so deeply woven into the fabric of West Virginia culture.”

Two-week buck firearm season will be open in every county except Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming.

Hunters may harvest one buck with a base license, but if they want to take a second buck they need to purchase a Class RG or RRG
