Former San Diego Padres ace pitcher Randy Jones has died, the team announced Wednesday. He was 75.
No cause of death was given.
“With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the Padres mourn the passing of our beloved left-hander, Randy Jones,” the Padres wrote in a post to X . “Randy was a cornerstone of our franchise. The Cy Young Award winner, Padres Hall of Famer, and tremendous community ambassador, was a giant in our lives and will be greatly missed.”
Jones, known for his dominating sinkerball, pitched 10 seasons in MLB from 1973-82, including his first eight seasons with the Padres and his final two with the New York Mets.
He earned his first career All-Star selection in 1975, when also he posted an MLB-best 2.24 ERA and finished second in National Cy Young Award voting. The following s
