A convicted armed robber free on parole was identified by authorities as a suspect in a Gretna shooting that left a man dead Sunday morning.
Mark Haynes, 56, of New Orleans, is wanted on counts of second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm, according to Gretna Police Deputy Chief Jason DiMarco.
Haynes is accused of gunning down 48-year-old Michael K. Smith of New Orleans.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Creekside Apartments in the 1400 block of Virgil Street in Gretna. The department received a call reporting the shooting about 6:30 a.m., DiMarco said.
Officers arrived and found Smith lying face up on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
