Nearly 20 months after the cargo ship Dali struck Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge and caused its collapse, much of the ship’s crew remains in the city, unable to return home as legal proceedings continue.

Nine members of the crew are still in Baltimore, supported by the Apostleship of the Sea, a Catholic ministry that provides assistance to mariners. Andrew Middleton, who runs the local chapter, has been helping them adjust to life on shore while they await resolution of ongoing litigation.

“They’re not working, and only a few have been able to see their families,” Middleton said. “We’ve gone shopping, to Orioles games, trips to D.C. and Gettysburg. They’ve even been to my house to watch Ravens games. I take one of the crew members with me to Mass every Sunday.”
