BARRE, Vt. (WCAX) - If you’ve driven through downtown Barre, you’ve most likely seen Boisvert Shoe Repair, one of the oldest businesses in town and among the state’s last shoe repair shops. But large banners now tell the story -- the store is closing.

Thirty-four-year-old Megan Boisvert runs the fifth-generation family business that has operated for 75 years. The shop also sells leather coats and shoe accessories.

“You always save more souls in Barre than any of the churches here,” one customer said.

Boisvert started working at age seven, sweeping floors. “I learned it from my grandfather and my father,” she said.
