WASHINGTON, D.C. (WWNY) - Gas-fired appliances were on the verge of being banned in New York under Governor Hochul’s All-Electric Building Act.

Set to take effect January 1, it banned natural gas or other fossil fuel equipment from all new homes and buildings of 7 stories or less.

Republican congressional representatives in the state want to ban that ban with their own bill.

“It’s important now more than ever to pass my Energy Choice Act, to officially ban the ban and protect affordable, reliable energy options for New Yorkers and across this country,” said Congressman Nick Langworthy (R-23rd District).

As Republicans come out with their plan, Governor Hochul put the All-Electric Building Act on pause, reportedly to let an appeals court rule on a lawsuit from groups challenging the act
