HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity waived all interest accrued on $42.2 million in emergency loans disbursed by the Treasury during this year’s protracted budget impasse, but a provision included in the updated Fiscal Code prevents a return of the program next year in the event of another stalemate.
Both chambers of the Pennsylvania General Assembly voted Nov. 12 to adopt an operating budget for 2025-26, a fiscal year now in its fifth month. Gov. Josh Shapiro signed the budget and enabling legislation into law on the same day — 135 days beyond the annual June 30 deadline.
