Detroit's auto industry is closely watching the latest development in an impending semiconductor chip crisis to see if the issue is resolved and the industry can exhale ― or if it leads to a bigger dearth of semiconductor chips that brings new vehicle production to a halt.

On Nov. 19, the Dutch government said it was suspending its intervention at computer chip maker Nexperia because of 'constructive talks' with China. The Dutch government has been in a dispute with China for several weeks now, which has led to shortages of chips used by carmakers in a variety of car parts.
