LEXINGTON, Ky. — Neighbors in a Lexington community are teaming up to stop changes to their historic properties, which are central to downtown.

From single-family homes to small apartment buildings, the community has thrived on East Maxwell Street in Lexington for over a century.

Gerald Evans and his family have lived in the historic neighborhood for generations.

“My dad was born in 1930 on Lafayette Avenue,” Evans said.

Now, new concerns are growing out of the neighborhood.

“I’m all for growth as long as it’s responsible. With the advent of additional student housing, it seems like we’re seeing a lot of things that I’d like to know if there’s been any research done on. Traffic flow is increasing dramatically. They change some traffic lanes,” Evans said.
