COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina lawmakers are taking a closer look at state regulations that business owners say are making it harder for them to operate.

A House committee met Wednesday to hear from business owners across a range of industries, including construction and cosmetology, about rules they say increase costs, slow down projects and limit growth.

From construction delays to licensing requirements for makeup artists, industry leaders told lawmakers that certain regulations are stifling the state’s economic potential and hurting their bottom line.
