It felt like they left as quickly as they came. Or at least that's the hope for many people in Durham after a day that saw a string of arrests by Border Patrol agents.
It's not clear how many people federal agents arrested in the Bull City and the broader Triangle region in their blitz Tuesday. Statewide, federal officials say they arrested 250 people since Border Patrol agents arrived in Charlotte Saturday.
The impact was on full display Wednesday in Durham. School drop-off lines were noticeably shorter than usual. Dozens of restaurants closed or reduced hours.
The entire kitchen staff called out at some restaurants, several owners told Spectrum News 1. Other businesses told employees to take the day off instead of risking a run-in with federal agents.
