Casting a ballot at next year’s municipal election in Kelowna could be a more straightforward and quicker process, city councillors will hear Monday.

Municipal staff recommend the city adopt the provincial voters list used by Elections BC.

For recent elections, the city has used a voting-day registration process, which requires those showing up to cast ballots to produce multiple pieces of identification.

It can be a “complicated and time-consuming” experience for both voters and election officials, states a report going to councillors.

“It can also lead to confusion and frustration as individuals who live outside the municipal boundaries or are otherwise not qualified to vote nonetheless arrive at voting locations on voting day and attempt to register,” the report says.
