The families of three girls who were allegedly sexually assaulted by an Irmo charter school teacher have sued the school and the state public charter school district, claiming the entities not only failed to protect the students but also failed to report the abuse to authorities.

The teacher, Sulaymaan Benloit, is accused of sexually assaulting multiple after-school students at Green Charter Schools of the Midlands between August 2023 and January 2025. At the time, he was employed as its after-school director and as a substitute teacher.

Irmo police have charged Benoit, 33, with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and 12 counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He has been detained at the Richland County jail since Oct. 28, after initiall
