OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Trump Administration is looking to make a change to their homelessness policy.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development, which distributes more than $3.9 billion in Continuum of Care funds, is proposing a cut to permanent housing by two-thirds next year.
Open Door Mission says that would make it difficult for them to get Omahans out of shelters and into their own homes.
“Housing is very short for Omaha. When funding is cut for that it’s even shorter, which then means what they do if they’re already in a shelter situation and in crisis. How do we help get them stable outside of out facility so that they can move on with their life and they can be a productive member of the community?” Amy Harvey, their Chief Community Relations Officer, questioned.
