A convicted sex offender who is considered a high risk to reoffend, and who refused sexual offender programming, has been released and is now expected to live in Winnipeg, police say.

Desmond Jared Shane Catcheway, 36, was released from the Winnipeg Remand Centre on Wednesday, the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit said in a press release.

Catcheway is considered a high risk to reoffend in a sexual and/or sexually violent manner against women and girls, according to the release.

He has a history of sexual and violent offences, including sexually assaulting unconscious females, the release said.

He also has a history of failing to comply with court orders, it said.
