KILGORE, Texas — Rusk County officials announced earlier this week that they would be naming a third suspect involved in the 1983 KFC murders.
The other two suspects, identified as Romeo Pinkerton and Darnell Hartsfield, have already been sentenced to life in prison. Hartsfield passed away in 2022.
DNA evidence allowed this third suspect to be pinpointed.
"The advancements in DNA technology have essentially allowed for the identification of really anyone," Colby Lasyone, chief of staff at Othram, said.
Othram is a Houston-based company that works with law enforcement agencies across the country on unsolved cases. They did not work on the KFC murders case, but they do specialize in DNA evidence.
"If there's DNA, there's an answer," Lasyone said.
