Former Patriots quarterback Cam Newton is skeptical about the staying power of the Patriots’ winning success.

New England is an NFL-best 9-2 and riding an eight game win streak. But, Newton said that the Patriots have “fools gold” written all over them.

He even compared the team to cubic zirconia, a synthetic material that looks similar to a diamond.

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye , who grew up in the Charlotte area and has mentioned being a fan of Newton on multiple occasions, brushed off the remarks during a recent appearance on WEEI Afternoons.

“I don’t even know what show he’s on,” Maye said. “I think they get paid to make remarks and make certain comments.”
