WASHINGTON — National Guard members stationed in D.C. under President Donald Trump's "Safe and Beautiful" mission spent Friday with some therapy dogs. It was part of a morale-boosting effort as many continue to work long hours with no clear end to the deployment.
Paws & Purpose and Fidos for Freedom partnered with the Guard to bring in the trained support dogs for the roughly 2,400 troops activated in the District.
According to the U.S. Army National Guard, the aim was to offer a brief break for personnel who, in some cases, are working seven days a week with limited time to reset.
"Everyone has a mission," U.S. Army Lt. Col. Leah Fletcher said. "But we all have the same basic human needs."
