SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has run into controversy even before production has begun. The project is facing a potential legal challenge over its title, as well as criticism surrounding recent remarks made by the director.

Production House Claims Ownership of Title

Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations has asserted that it holds the registered rights to the title Vaaranasi, claiming it was officially secured with the Telugu Film Producers’ Council in 2023. According to documentation, the registration has been renewed and remains valid from 24 June 2025 to 23 July 2026.

Despite this, Rajamouli’s team unveiled the film as Varanasi—a spelling variation of the same name—during a grand launch event at Ramoji Film Cit
