South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has not given up hope for Adelaide to potentially host the UN climate summit in the future, after Australia ceded the hosting rights for next year's event to Türkiye.
Mr Malinauskas said while he is "disappointed" that Australia had not won the rights to host COP31, he "understands the position" Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had taken.
"We, of course, did our best in South Australia," he said.
"We won the rights to be the host city in the event that Australia won the rights internationally, they fell short. We accept that and we press on to pursue other opportunities for the state."
Mr Malinauskas said $8 million had been allocated in the state budget for COP31 preparations .
