The City of Canning has been urged to audit all its public laneways to identify which are lacking adequate lighting as requests from residents to take action build.

Shen Sekhon and Paul Tuckek urged fellow councillors at Tuesday’s full council meeting and the previous week’s city agenda briefing to support the development of a priority list of its more than 220 laneways for lighting upgrades to improve safety and address potential risks to residents.

They said the city currently had a “significant backlog” of requests for lighting at public access ways, with Willetton accounting for about 35 per cent of outstanding requests, Parkwood 23 per cent, Lynwood 20 per cent, and Shelley and Ferndale 10 per cent each.
