LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Two weeks after the deadly UPS plane crash in Louisville, cleanup efforts remain active, with a multi-agency response working around the clock.
“There’s been a team of agencies and people from UPS to emergency management to MSD, Louisville Water, and many others that have been on site and working around the clock,” said Wes Sydnor, Metropolitan Sewer District.
MSD reports that more than 900,000 gallons of oily liquids and other runoff have been contained so far. Containment sites stretch from the crash area near the Melco Basin to the vicinity of Nick Rodman Legacy Park.
Crews are using booms and skimmers to trap and remove contaminants. Booms float on the surface to absorb oil and other pollutants, while skimmers mechanically separate contaminants from the water.
