Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow had his busiest day of the offseason Tuesday, at least judging by the results. By the time the deadline for making changes to the team's 40-man roster arrived at 6 p.m. ET, Breslow had done much more than simple fine-tuning.

The Red Sox, as recounted by Chris Cotillo of MassLive , "made four trades, added three minor league pitchers to the roster and cut two notable contributors by designating them for assignment."

The flurry of activity was motivated by the fact that any minor league player who meets service time requirements — five years for players first signed at age 18 or younger, four years for those signed at age 19 or older — will be available in the Dec. 10 Rule 5 Draft for any other team to claim.
