There’s still a lot we don’t know about the plans Border Patrol has in place for its descent on southeast Louisiana beginning later this week, but we can likely use United States Census Bureau data to inform where agents might be focusing their attention.
In other cities that have been the target of immigration sweeps, agents have patrolled neighborhoods with a large Hispanic or Latino population. We decided to look into the numbers in the New Orleans area.
The Hispanic population in the New Orleans metro is lower than the national average of 20 percent, that population has grown in the last 25 years.
