Assam's Kaliabor continues to face rising incidents of wild elephant attacks, causing fear and sleepless nights for local villagers. In a recent incident, a wild elephant calf was rescued after it fell into an abandoned mud pit.

According to locals, wild elephants enter the fields of Bamuni, Mathoukhati, Dolpukhuri, and Jhaokata almost every night, damaging crops and creating panic among farmers.

Late night on November 19, an elephant calf accidentally slipped into a deserted mud pit near a small tea garden close to the fields and started crying for help.

Hearing the distress calls, villagers immediately informed the Forest Department. With support from local residents, forest officials launched a rescue operation around 2 a.m.
