Tuesday evening’s Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education meeting was the last for outgoing Vice President Will Jones and Secretary Angela Lema, who met with community members in a farewell ceremony before the meeting took place.

Jones and Lema took the opportunity to speak to supporters of their work over the past four years. Jones wiped away tears while addressing attendees. Lema received a bouquet of flowers from one attendee who was sad to see her go.

Their final meeting proved productive, as the board voted unanimously to approve boundary changes that will go into effect starting next fall that will see some Grand Junction High School areas shift to Central High School in order to avoid chronic attendance imbalance between the two schools.
