An express train and another passenger train have collided in the southern Czech Republic, injuring dozens of people.

Fire rescue services said the crash on Thursday occurred in a region about 130km south of Prague.

All passengers from both trains were evacuated, officials said.

A spokeswoman for a regional hospital told news agency CTK that five people had been admitted with serious injuries.

Forty others suffered light injuries.

Transport Minister Martin Kupka said on X the crash was under investigation but preliminary information showed one of the trains likely passed a signal in the stop position.
