The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has officially declared Alfred Gangata of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) as the winner of the Lilongwe Mtsiriza-Mtandire parliamentary by-election.
According to MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, electoral officials met on 19 November 2025 to review the results following a High Court directive, ensuring all complaints and disputed votes were properly considered.
Justice Mtalimanja confirmed that after a thorough review, spoiled votes did not affect the final outcome of the election.
The final results are as follows:
Alfred Gangata (DPP) – 12,369 votes
George Zulu (MCP) – 12,360 votes
Ruth Chingwalu (Independent) – 1,610 votes
Linda Phiri (AFORD) – 97 votes
Else Mituka (UTM) – 1,313 votes
