Andy Burnham has refused to rule out the possibility of challenging Sir Keir Starmer for the Labour Party leadership.

Despite being repeatedly questioned on the matter in media rounds on Thursday morning, Mr Burnham said he was not in a position to rule out a move against the Prime Minister.

On BBC Breakfast, where he appeared after announcing a massive £1bn growth plan for Greater Manchester , he appeared frustrated at being pressed on his leadership ambitions, suggesting this type of question could be part of the problem with the culture in Westminster.

When asked if he would rule out a challenge to Sir Keir, he responded: "I am not going to sit here this morning and rule out what might or might not happen because I don't know what the future will hold."
