BENGALURU: The Health Department has launched a massive operation against a notorious network involved in foetal sex determination and female foeticide in the state.
On Wednesday evening, a raid was conducted at a hospital in Vijayanagara where an unauthorized scanning machine was seized. The department suspected that the machine was being used for sex determination of foetuses without proper authorization.
The raid was led by Dr Vivek Dorai, Deputy Director of the Health Department. The scanning room has been sealed off, and further investigation is under way. Dr Dorai, who is also the state nodal officer, PCPNDT Act, said, “We found some medicines and ointments which are used in sex determination tests. We have seized all the material and we are taking further action”.
