CHIKKABALLAPUR: A tipper lorry driver was killed in an accident on National Highway-44 while trying to flee from a mining officer who was following him for allegedly violating rules.

The tipper driver Ramesh, a resident of Lingasugur in Raichur district, had joined his job just four days ago. He was transporting M-sand from Yelagalahalli crusher zone in Chikkaballapur taluk to Bengaluru.

Mines and Geology officer Savitha, a geoscientist, was on night duty at the Chadalapura mining check post. When Ramesh didn’t stop his tipper, she followed him in her vehicle. Ramesh was allegedly carrying 25 tons of M-sand with a permit for only 15 tons, and tried to escape.
